Brighten Your Smile
Professional teeth whitening can be a method of removing surface stains in order to lighten the colour of your teeth.
The solution used for whitening contains active ingredients like hydrogen peroxide. As this bleaching agent breaks down, it released oxygen and produces a whitening effect.
Depending on the needs of our patients, our dentists can offer different teeth whitening procedures including both in-office and at-home whitening treatments.
Your Treatment Options
At-Home Whitening
At-home whitening treatments are designed with patient ease-of-use in mind. They can brighten your smile in the course of days or weeks.
We will create customized whitening trays that can be worn for a few hours a day and will help you achieve a progressively brighter smile.
In-Office Whitening
We also offer in-office whitening, effective for quick results and stain removal. In-office whitening procedures allow for more concentrated whitening agents in the process since the process will be supervised by a dentist.
This means in-office whitening can be helpful when you would like your teeth whitened quicker than at-home treatments can offer.
How Take-Home Treatment Works
During your teeth whitening appointment, our dentists will create customized whitening trays from impressions of your teeth. Once we have created the trays you can pick them up at a second appointment.
You'll place the whitening gel in each tray and you'll need to wear the trays in your mouth for about 1 to 2 hours each day. Many patients wear their trays overnight, as they sleep.
There are some potential risks to the process, with teeth becoming brittle over time. Because of this, we recommend teeth whitening only for patients over 16 years old.
The Results
Typically, you'll see results within 10 to 14 days, with a significant change in tooth colour generally occurring in four to six weeks.
Occasionally, the effectiveness of tooth whitening may be minimal if teeth are seriously stained.
In these instances, an alternative treatment to consider may be dental crowns or veneers.
